ÅKE E:SON LINDMAN
The client's wish was to create a shop interior mediating a sales dialogue with the exclusive clientele the products sold are intended for. The store in Malmö serves as the basis for establishing similar shops in Copenhagen, Stockholm and Gothenburg, and is to demonstrate the viability of the idea behind it. The total floor area of 35 m2 is divided up into three rooms: the shop itself, which opens onto a public passageway; further inside a room used for giving cosmetic treatments; and innermost a room of private character with a bathroom and storage space.
The shop is designed for the sale of a limited number of products, primarily skin creams and vitamin preparations. Most of the products are packed in delicate-appearing jars or tins and the like, or in bottles with droppers, heightening the sense and atmosphere of exclusiveness that is aimed at. The fact of this being a shop in which only a limited number of products are sold led to the idea of presenting the products as though they were works of art. The interior decorating and furnishings were arranged accordingly, as though an art exhibition was being presented, one in which 40 examples of each product were displayed under appropriate lighting conditions and framed in an attractive way, giving the impression of there being parts of a work of art.
