Gustaf Adolf’s Square was to be completely re-designed. Two new buildings were built - one housing a bus terminal and the other a restaurant and a newsagent’s. Abelardo Gonzalez Arkitektbyrå was commissioned to supervise the construction of the building in which the restaurant and the newsagent’s were to be located, ensuring that the material and construction specifications were followed. AGAB was also commissioned to design the interior spaces of the two businesses.

Initially the interior decorating work involved selecting the materials to be used, that would characterise the building as a whole. A combination of heavy materials and of glass was decided upon. Supporting columns of solid granite and concrete modules in the ceiling were employed, together with panes of glass of varying character. This resulted in an openness, which gave the impression of the Square itself continuing through the walls  into the building. With these construction principles as a departure point, we decided to maintain a sense of spaciousness, one that would accentuate the weight and strength of the materiality. The characteristics of the concrete used as an interior-decorating medium contributed to an appearance of openness throughout. The lighting was so arranged that the solidness of the material was emphasised, while the warmth in the nuances of colour in the concrete was brought forth, this defining separate spaces in the otherwise open restaurant environment.
